Crystalbrook Flynn
Forget the beige boredom often associated with tropical gateways. Crystalbrook Flynn lands on the Cairns Esplanade with the subtlety of a disco ball, embracing its “Wild Child” moniker through sheer architectural transparency. The structure is a glass menagerie; the two swimming pools act less as secluded retreats and more as aquatic stages. The Level 1 pool, visible from the street, offers prime people-watching—both for you and the pedestrians below. Inside, the vibe shifts from exhibitionism to eco-conscious chic. Rooms are commanded by iPads rather than compendiums, and plastic water bottles are banished in favor of filtered taps. While the street-facing suites offer spectacular Coral Sea vistas, they also inherit the acoustic energy of the Esplanade’s nightlife—a fair trade for being in the epicenter. Culinary efforts are headlined by Flynn’s Italian, where the hand-made pasta and Beef Carpaccio demand attention, though the real star is the Whiskey and Wine bar, recently highly commended in the 2025 HM Awards. It’s loud, it’s proud, and occasionally chaotic. If you want silence, go to a monastery. If you want a Negroni by a cantilevered glass pool, you come here.
