5-star hotel
Hotel La Palma Capri
If the Piazzetta is Capri’s living room, Hotel La Palma is its most exclusive private parlour. As the Oetker Collection’s first Italian masterpiece, this 50-room reimagining of the island’s oldest hotel (est. 1822) by Francis Sultana feels less like a hotel and more like the summer home of a particularly stylish friend. Sultana has banished the dust of history, replacing it with a crisp, maritime palette—think sea-foam greens and bespoke frescoes that echo the island’s jagged coast rather than mimic it. The real theatre, however, lies beyond the lobby. While cliffside rivals trade on vertigo, La Palma wins on access. A quick shuttle whisks you to Da Gioia Beach Club in Marina Piccola, where the service is as sharp as the salt-crusted fish. Back at the hotel, dinner at Gennaro’s is non-negotiable; Chef Giovanni Bavuso’s homemade cavatelli with zucchini and caciocavallo is a masterclass in Campania’s deceptive simplicity. Evenings end at Bianca Rooftop, where the fire-grilled meats compete only with the sunset over the village rooftops. It is unashamedly expensive, yes, but for a front-row ticket to the Faraglioni without the crowds, it is the only show in town.
