5-star hotel
Palacio Tangara
It requires a certain audacity to drop a neoclassical chateau into the middle of a Brazilian rainforest, yet Palácio Tangará pulls off the theatrics with aplomb. Located within the dense canopy of Burle Marx Park, this property feels less like a hotel and more like a gastronomic fortress isolated from São Paulo’s concrete sprawl. The draw here is undoubtedly the table. As the only South American outpost for Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, the dining room delivers precision that justifies the flight—specifically the locally sourced Sororoca fish with coconut and lime, a masterclass in acidity and texture. Upstairs, the rooms are cavernous, opening onto expansive terraces where the only noise pollution comes from resident marmosets. Interiors eschew tropical kitsch for greyscale elegance, though the real showstopper is the outdoor pool, tiled in a butterfly motif that rivals the park’s flora. The Lancôme Absolue Spa provides a rare European-standard wellness circuit, complete with serious dry and wet saunas. While the isolation necessitates a driver for any external excursions, the point of checking in here is to stay put. It is a steep financial commitment, but for the privilege of sleeping mere floors above the city’s finest French-Asian kitchen, it is a non-negotiable pilgrimage for the hungry traveler.
