5-star hotel
Rosewood Yangon
If walls could talk, the colossal 1927 New Law Courts building would scream resilience. Rebranded as The Eravati (formerly Rosewood), this massive heritage project on the Strand is less a hotel and more a time capsule of Edwardian administrative might. The sheer scale of the Ionic columns and the majestic portico entrance creates a sense of arrival that few Asian properties can match. Inside, the transition from corporate luxury to independent stewardship is palpable—the 'vibe' is quieter, a bit more raw, but undeniably majestic. The rooms are cavernous sanctuaries of teak and high ceilings, offering a cool respite from Yangon’s humidity, though the dampness occasionally lingers in the corridors—a common quirk of heritage restoration here. Dining at NOVA European Brasserie is the clear highlight; the signature Rotisserie Porchetta is rich and comforting, best followed by a smoky Banana Old Fashioned at the CourtRoom Bar, which feels like a set from a noir film. While service warmth is exceptional, operational lapses exist—breakfast can be chaotic and minibar pricing is ambitious. Yet, for architecture lovers, floating in the rooftop infinity pool watching the Yangon River drift by makes every flaw forgiveable.
