5-star hotel
Radisson Collection Royal Hotel, Copenhagen
Sixty years after Arne Jacobsen sketched the world’s first design hotel on a napkin (or close enough), the Radisson Collection Royal remains a masterclass in the sustainability of timelessness. It’s not just about the Green Key certification, though they have that too; it’s about furniture so perfectly conceived it hasn't needed replacing in six decades. The lobby’s suspended spiral staircase still demands a dramatic entrance, and the original Egg and Swan chairs feel less like furniture and more like old friends. Be warned: the standard rooms are exercises in Danish restraint (read: compact), hovering around 20sqm. But you aren't here to practice yoga in the foyer; you’re here for the views of Tivoli Gardens and the Le Labo amenities. Dining at ISSEI offers a sharp detour from New Nordic cuisine, serving punchy Nikkei dishes like Salmon Tataki that wake up the palate. Recently crowned with the 'Art of Hospitality' award in 2024, the service creates a warmth that the cool minimalism sometimes lacks.
