Covent Garden Hotel
If Virginia Woolf were booking a stay in 2026, she wouldn’t just want a room of her own—she’d want the Drawing Room at the Covent Garden Hotel. While the tourists swarm the Royal Opera House just 400 meters away, this Firmdale property remains the theatre district’s most sophisticated backstage pass. Kit Kemp’s signature 'Modern English Eccentric' interiors are in full force here: think fabric-lined walls that dampen the city roar and dressmaker’s mannequins standing guard in the suites. The true allure, however, is the dedicated Drawing Room & Library on the first floor. It is a masterclass in quietude, offering an Honesty Bar where one can pour a stiff drink by the fire before sinking into an overstuffed armchair. For dinner, Brasserie Max buzzes with a pewter-topped bar and media moguls devouring the signature lobster and crab linguine with chilli and garlic. While the base Queen rooms are admittedly snug (23 sqm), the service—led by 2024 Cateys Manager of the Year Helle Jensen—is expansive, ensuring that even without a pool, the dedicated Technogym and in-room Soholistic spa treatments keep the entertainment elite polished. It is a country house masquerading as a city hotel, and it plays the part perfectly.
