5-star hotel
Intercontinental London - The O2
It would be lazy to dismiss the InterContinental - The O2 as merely a dormitory for the arena next door. Designed by RTKL, this 18-storey glass giant is a serious architectural statement on the Greenwich Peninsula, offering a visual dialogue with the Canary Wharf skyline that few central London hotels can match. The lobby sets the tone immediately—no beige corporate dullness here, but rather a dramatic installation of Fabbian glass columns that play with light like frozen waterfalls. Upstairs, the rooms are exercises in framing. You aren't paying for the furniture (though the beds are excellent); you are paying for the floor-to-ceiling glazing that turns the docklands into a cinematic backdrop. For dinner, bypass the standard buffet for 'Kinaara', where the 'Chai By The Shore' afternoon tea—crafted by Bake Off: The Professionals 2024 winners Tanuj and Narayan—adds a necessary layer of culinary credence. The wellness floor is substantial, housing a proper 17-meter lap pool, though be warned: the water temperature leans towards the invigoratingly glacial, a frequent gripe among the leisure crowd. Service is sharp, if occasionally overwhelmed by the pre-concert rush, but for a front-row seat to London’s modern evolution, this glass fortress stands unrivaled.
