Sofitel Melbourne On Collins
While the 'Paris End' of Collins Street is often defined by Victorian rustication, the Sofitel asserts itself as the precinct’s modern aristocrat. Occupying the upper echelon (levels 36–50) of the I.M. Pei-influenced Collins Place, this hotel doesn’t just overlook the city; it condescends to it in the most delightful way. Following a 2022 renovation, the interiors have shed their corporate beige for a sharper French chic—moody timber shutters now frame the skyline in every room, and the Balmain amenities add a requisite layer of Parisian scent. The property’s beating heart is the Atrium on 35, where a mirrored canopy soars 15 floors overhead, creating a kaleidoscope of light that makes the Golden Ember cocktail taste infinitely more expensive. Dining at No35 remains an occasion, where the signature Filet de Boeuf fights for attention against floor-to-ceiling views of the MCG. The absence of a pool is a notable drawback for a hotel of this caliber, and the shower-over-bath configuration in some rooms feels like a relic of the 1980s. However, the service is militantly precise, and the recent 'Event Hotel of the Year' win (MEA 2025) confirms its operational prowess. It is a vertical palace for those who prefer their luxury served with a side of vertigo.
