5-star hotel
The Ritz-Carlton Bal Harbour, Miami
Forget the velvet ropes and thumping bass of Collins Avenue. The Ritz-Carlton Bal Harbour is where the grown-ups go to disappear. Perched on the quiet northern tip of the barrier island, this property functions less like a hotel and more like a private residential tower. With a layout that often places just two rooms per floor, the privacy is bordering on hermetic—you might navigate your entire stay without seeing a soul in the elevator. The entry-level rooms are massive (510 sq ft) and unashamedly classic, featuring warm woods and freestanding soaking tubs positioned against floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the superyachts navigating Haulover Inlet. While the interiors may feel a touch traditional compared to the stark modernism of its neighbors, the warmth is welcome. The Exhale Spa is a serious wellness destination, not a basement afterthought, offering a 10,000-square-foot sanctuary. Dining at the Artisan Beach House plays it safe but succeeds with a robust Seafood Paella and a Burnt Basque Cheesecake that justifies the calories. Service can occasionally suffer from 'Miami time,' but if you’re here for the European-edge pool and the silence, you won't mind the wait.
