5-star hotel
Rosewood Sao Paulo
Anchored in the historic Cidade Matarazzo complex, Rosewood São Paulo isn’t just a hotel; it’s a brazen architectural statement by Jean Nouvel that defies the city’s gray skyline. This vertical forest, draped in indigenous flora, feels less like a hotel and more like a fever dream of tropical modernism. Philippe Starck’s interiors are characteristically eccentric—think guitar-shaped bathtubs and 450 site-specific artworks that demand your attention. The rooms are a tactile delight, clad in sustainable Brazilian wood with smart-tech that actually works. While the service can sometimes drift into a relaxed 'Paulistano' pacing that might test a New Yorker’s patience, the hard product is unassailable. Dining is theater here: Blaise serves a fish crudo with coconut milk that is a masterclass in texture, while the jazz bar Rabo di Galo, with its hand-painted ceiling, offers the best 'Bolove' (scotch egg with caviar) in the hemisphere. Asaya Spa’s Guerlain treatments provide a necessary reset. It is, unequivocally, the most exciting address in South America.
