5-star hotel
Cervo Mountain Boutique Resort
Forget the red-gingham curtains and mandatory cuckoo clocks. CERVO isn’t just a hotel; it’s a beautifully curated rejection of Swiss mountain clichés. Perched just above the village (a slick elevator ride up from the Sunnegga funicular station), this seven-chalet hamlet feels less like a resort and more like the private compound of a well-traveled friend with impeccable taste. The vibe is strictly 'hunting lodge meets global nomad'—think rough-hewn timber, industrial steel, and vintage kilims rather than lace doilies. The rooms are split into distinct tribes: 'Nomad' (compact, social, practical) and 'Alpinist' (expansive, serene, view-heavy). While the entry-level Nomad rooms are snug, they are smartly appointed with sustainable Soeder amenities and tactile linens that feel indulgent, not austere. The real draw, however, is the social engineering. The Bazaar restaurant daringly swaps fondue for Shakshuka and vibrant mezze, creating a buzzing après-ski scene that feels more Marrakech than Matterhorn. Wellness here is equally subversive. The Mountain Ashram Spa ditches clinical white tiles for Bhutanese herbal baths and a steaming outdoor Onsen that offers the town’s most envious view of the Toblerone-shaped peak. Service is slick but refreshingly casual—staff in sneakers who know their way around the natural wine list. It’s loud, it’s lively, and it’s arguably the most fun you can have in Zermatt with your ski boots off.
